Planned Changes to Train Times

Details of planned engineering works on the Southern network.

To maintain and improve the railway, Network Rail carries out regular planned engineering works on the Southern network.

This work usually takes place at weekends, on bank holidays and after 10pm during the week. However, major work may affect services at other times.

We will provide information here as soon as it is available, but delays in industry planning process mean that late notice of alterations can be expected. Additionally journey planners may not be updated to reflect the changes shown here yet.  Details of when journey planners are expected to be updated is shown on the individual items below when known.  Please recheck your journey after this time.

Please recheck your journey on the day of travel.

You should always check if planned engineering works will affect your journey.

Project Information:

Network Rail engineers will be working to replace all signalling equipment between Lewes and Seaford with new, more reliable technology as part of a £20m signalling upgrade. The signal boxes at Lewes, Newhaven Town and Newhaven Harbour will be closed, with control of the signalling in the area transferred to Network Rail's state-of-the-art Route Operating Centre (ROC) at Three Bridges.

The work being carried out around Lewes is part of the plan to provide a better, more reliable railway for passengers. The new signalling equipment will be far less likely to fail.

The improvements will allow triple the number of trains to use the line via Lewes as a diversionary route between Brighton and Haywards Heath when the main line is closed.
