Train service punctuality and reliability

For information on how the train service is performing – check below for yesterday’s service or download our latest four-week report.

On time punctuality

From April 2019, we will publish an additional measure of train punctuality as part of national plans to improve train service performance, reduce delays and increase transparency with ‘to the minute’ punctuality data.

The current data known as the public performance measure (PPM) considers a train to be on time if it arrives within 5 minutes of its scheduled arrival time (or 10 minutes for long distance operators). On time will record punctuality to the minute at each station along its journey.

The daily report

Every day by noon we publish our performance statistics for the previous day. We report two figures:

  • PPM – the percentage of trains arriving at their destination within 5 minutes of schedule
  • Right time – the percentage of trains arriving at their scheduled time

Wednesday 20th March 2019

Route PPM Right Time
Thameslink 91.5% 69.6%
Southern Mainline 84.0% 58.9%
Southern Coastway 96.9% 79.3%
Southern Metro 88.7% 62.4%
Gatwick Express 73.1% 33.3%
Great Northern 90.3% 67.1%
Total 87.4% 61.8%

4-week performance results

In addition to daily reports, we also prepare statistics measuring performance over a 4-week period.

These reports let you see how we’re doing over a longer time frame. They also show any major incidents that affected our service.
